Oggi parleremo di come trovare rapidamente lavoro in Scozia, quali sono gli step necessari da fare e gli errori da evitare! Seguitemi

Premessa

Iniziamo col dire che è improbabile riuscire a trovare un lavoro dall’Italia
le eccezioni valgono se il candidato viene contattato o prova a contattare un’azienda, magari tramite LinkedIn, e grazie ai suoi studi o alle sue capacità riesce a farsi assumere a distanza, che sia con un colloquio su Skype, tramite email o per via telefonica

Ma nella maggior parte dei casi una persona, pur avendo titoli di studi o un’esperienza da lavoratore professionista, dovrà comunque arrivare prima in Scozia e fare la classica trafila burocratica per poi iniziare a cercare lavoro

Step 1 – l’inglese

Nella situazione attuale vi dico che no, non è indispensabile conoscere l’inglese
è possibile trovare lavoro anche con un inglese molto basso (esempio A1 o A2)

Vi sconsiglio però di partire per la Scozia con zero inglese, perché già con un livello basso sarà dura per voi affrontare colloqui, chiamate telefoniche dal vostro capo, meeting e così via
figuratevi con un inglese pari a zero

Vi consiglio quindi di studiarlo tramite applicazioni come Duolingo, o d’Iniziare a vedere film britannici in inglese con sottotitoli sempre in inglese

Tenete conto anche che una volta arrivati in Scozia potrete usufruire di alcune scuole gratuite come la Welcoming a Edimburgo

Step 2 – le vostre esperienze

Una nota dolente come già anticipato prima è la vostra esperienza in Italia o Europa
purtroppo non è facile far valere alcuni dei propri studi, o molte delle esperienze e brevetti acquisiti in Italia
Infatti un idraulico, elettricista o muratore dovrà impegnarsi a fare dei corsi di aggiornamento in Scozia
Sia perché il lavoro e i materiali qui sono diversi da quelli usati in Italia, sia per un costume sociale, infatti il mio consiglio è di riempire il vostro CV di esperienze locali, così da renderlo più british e fruibile in Scozia

Step 3 – Costruire un buon curriculum

Alcuni consigli pragmatici su come costruire un buon CV
Per prima cosa se avete avuto molte esperienze in molti settori diversi, fate un curriculum per categoria, esempio: (ristorazione, receptionist, pulizie)

Cercate di far entrare tutto in una pagina

Evitate data di nascita, foto e firme

Inserite un indirizzo email appropriato, magari non .it
esempio: (nome.cognome@gmail.com è ok, supercazzola.kawaii@nonnolibero.it no)

Step 4 – dove trovare lavoro

Alcuni siti in UK sono molto utilizzati per inviare la propria candidatura
Tra cui Monster, Totaljobs, Reed… ma uno spicca tra tutti e non per la sua interfaccia grafica, ahimè molto scadente
Stiamo parlando di Gumtree, un sito di vendita e annunci simile a Subito.it

Una buona cosa è recarsi da un Job center e da un centro di assistenza per curriculum ed esperienze chiamato “skill development”
Li vi sapranno aiutare sicuramente

Vi ricordo inoltre di dare un’occhiata anche a Indeed e sopratutto di curare il vostro profilo LinkedIn, dato che qui è molto utilizzato

Altra via per trovare lavoro è affidarsi a un’agenzia esterna, queste agenzie come la Linton a Edimburgo, vi aiuteranno a trovare lavoro, trattenendovi però una piccola parte di soldi del vostro stipendio

Step 5 – esperienze aggiuntive e consigli generali

Se non avete molte esperienze o una buona padronanza con il vostro inglese, buona cosa è iniziare a lavorare come volontario in qualche negozio “charity” così da allenare il vostro inglese e inserire un’esperienza nel vostro curriculum

I contratti in Scozia sono spesso a tempo indeterminato, il full time di solito è di 30/35 ore settimanali e il part-time di 20-25 ore.
Attenzione al numero di ore nei contratti, infatti capita di essere assunti a zero ore, questo vuol dire che il vostro datore di lavoro legalmente non è tenuto a richiamarvi e farvi lavorare un numero minimo di ore
questo non è un problema in linea generale, tranne per prestiti o mutui, infatti in quel caso le banche o le agenzie di credito vi potranno richiedere un anno di buste paghe come garanzia

Nota finale – salario minimo, referenze e raccomandazioni

C’è differenza tra una raccomandazioni e una referenza
Essere raccomandati per un lavoro vuol dire avere già quel lavoro, perché magari si conosce il capo, o qualcuno “ai piani alti” scavalcando così l’eventuale concorrenza
Cosa abbastanza rara qui in Scozia

La referenza invece è una nota o una lettera di una persona, di solito un manager o un supervisore per cui avete lavorato
Alcune candidature come per il supermercato Morrison, richiedono ben due referenze
Queste referenze possono riassumersi in “il candidato Mario Rossi ha lavorato per 6 mesi nel mio negozio, comportandosi sempre con gentilezza e professionalità”

Per quanto riguarda il salario, in Scozia c’è una minima garantita,
nessuno quindi dovrebbe pagarvi meno di quanto vi aspetta, in caso contrario non esitate a denunciare la cosa agli organi competenti come il citizens advice, che è una sorta di sindacato per i diritti dei cittadini

Attenzione, con apprendistato non s’intende un’assunzione temporanea come cameriere, lavapiatti, assistenza clienti o simili… quindi non preoccupatevi non prenderete quella cifra ad ore, ma verrete assunti normalmente
