Cosa fare se si vuole indossare un kilt in Scozia

Oggi ragazzi parleremo di kilt, in particolare quali sono gli errori da evitare, se una donna può indossare un kilt, quando viene normalmente indossato in Scozia, quali sono gli accessori indispensabili, con o senza mutande e consigli finali!

Con o senza mutande?

La tradizione richiede d’indossare il kilt senza mutande, ma è buon costume indossarle, molti scozzesi infatti dalle guardie reali ai più erranti come Andrew McAlindon indossano spesso un paio di mutande, anche per evitare certe brutte figure con i turisti

E’ interessante notare che alcuni negozi di kilt si sono lamentati di dover lavare quella zona del kilt a contatto con il “mostro di Lochness” mettendo come regola d’indossare le mutande se il kilt è affittato.
Un nobile scozzese del clan MacGregor andò su tutte le furie per questa cosa, data la tradizione, quindi a voi la scelta

Posso indossare i tartan di altri clan?

Oggi come oggi tutti possono indossare qualsiasi tartan, (il tartan è motivo a quadri che serve per differenziare un clan) indossare però il tartan di un altro clan potrebbe urtare la sensibilità di alcuni scozzesi, quindi il mio consiglio è: studiatevi la storia di un clan e poi indossate quel tartan! Almeno avrete un motivo più serio del “mi piace il colore”

Non esistono comunque solo tartan di clan, molti infatti sono collegati a luoghi e città, ad associazioni, club, o anche alla Scozia stessa come il Flower of Scotland, o il tartan dell’indipendenza scozzese

Attenzione, non tutti i tartan sono visti allo stesso modo esempio il tartan Campbell non è ben visto a Glencoe dopo il massacro avvenuto 300 anni fa
Infatti alcuni pub vietano proprio l’ingresso ai Campbell

Altro esempio è il tartan Balmoral, che può essere indossato solo dalla famiglia reale, infatti in vendita si trovano solo delle copie

Non sono gonne

Il kilt non è considerato una gonna primo perché ha un canone rigido di lunghezza, altezza e tipi di accessori, e secondo sopratutto perché deriva da un abito scozzese più antico chiamato in gaelico Feilidh-Mhor “grande kilt” ovvero una lunga stola di stoffa che veniva ripiegata e fermata con una cintura, il video è esplicativo

Kilt da donne?

Si, ci sono kilt da donne ma sono leggermente diversi, oggi come oggi esistono kilt femminili a mezza coscia, o sotto il ginocchio ma sono rivisitazioni moderne
Tradizionalmente esiste il “kiltie” utilizzato dalle danzatrici scozzesi durante I festival o i ceilidh (danze popolari scozzesi)

Essendo però il kiltie quasi un abito da danza l’unica alternativa classica femminile è la gonna in tartan lunga sotto al ginocchio, spesso con un taglio molto simile a quello maschile

Comunque sia ci sono anche piper donne, ovvero donne scozzesi che suonano la cornamusa, e che quindi indossano il kilt maschile con tutti gli accessori!

Quando indossare il kilt?
Se pensate che tutti in Scozia girino in kilt h24 vi sbagliate, il kilt è un abito da festa e viene indossato principalmente a:
Matrimoni, Battesimi, Funerali, Highland Games (una delle feste celtiche scozzesi più popolari), Ceilidh (eventi in cui ci sono danze popolari), Hogmanay (capodanno), Burn’s Night (la notte del bardo scozzese),
St. Andrew’s Day (giornata nazionale della scozia), Indipendace day (giornata dell’indipendenza scozz…. ok no quella non esiste ancora… ma arriverà!)
e se volete anche nei compleanni e durante la festa del papà

Essendo però abbastanza impegnativo indossarlo non viene messo sempre a questi eventi, diciamo che 1 scozzese su 5 lo indossa durante questi avvenimenti… Tranne quando gioca la nazionale di rugby scozzese, li 1 scozzese su 2 ha il kilt!

Nota a margine, il kilt è molto comune per chi fa trekking e scampagnate in montagna, in estate sulle highlands ho sempre trovato un turista o un locale con il kilt e lo zaino

Esistono infatti 2 modi per indossare il kilt, in maniera sportiva e ed elegante

Gli accessori di base per portare un kilt sono
(1 kilt, 1 paio di calze da kilt e 1 cinturone da kilt)

Occhio anche a due regolette, tenete il kilt a metà ginocchio, non sotto ma sopratutto non sopra, e non usate cappotti che hanno la stessa lunghezza del kilt, o sembrerà che siate nudi!
Le giacche ideali sono quelle corte o media lunghezza, negli eventi più formali ho visto addirittura mantelli in lana, ma sono casi eccezionali

Ecco quindi gli accessori in ordine d’importanza e grado di formalità

*Kilt

*Cintura da Kilt o cinturone

*Calzettoni da kilt

*Sporran

*Spilla da kilt

*Flashes

*Sgain Dubh o Dirk

Per eventi sportivi o casual va bene qualsiasi cosa sopra al kilt, anche camicia e giacca classica, io spesso uso un gilè e una giacca in tweed, o se non fa freddo anche una Ghillie shirt, ideale sopratutto per eventi folcloristici

Per eventi formali aggiungo:

*camicia con cravatta o papillon,

*panciotto e la giacca chiamata “Giaccia del principe Carlo”

* Scarpe da Kilt “facoltative, io uso ad esempio le brogue”

*Fly plaid con spilla celtica

*Cappello con piume di fagiano

Le ragazze:

*Gonna lunga o corta in tartan

*Corpetto

*Scialle in tartan

*Camicia con maniche a sbuffo

*Spilla per gonna o gioielli vari

Posso girare armato se indosso il kilt?

Si e no… al 90% il kilt giustifica l’avere uno sgain dubh, ovverto un coltello tradizionale scozzese, e con esso anche un Dirk, un pugnale sempre tradizionale… ma gia per il pugnale o addirittura una spada consiglio di limitarvi ad eventi formali come matrimoni e battesimi… che senso avrebbe andare alla marcia per l’indipendenza scozzese con un dirk?…. però occhio, potete girare con questi gioiellini solo in Scozia

Quanto costa un kilt?

30 anni fa I kilt costavano tutti una fucilata, oggi ci sono alcuni modelli più abordaboli che vengono riassunti in:

Kilt in acrilico, circa 20 sterline lungo 5 yard

Kilt sintetico o tessuto misto, 50 sterline da 5 yard

Kilt in lana scozzese 150 sterline da 5 yard e 200-250 sterline da 8 yard

Esiste anche la versione “heavy” molto più pesante, e normalmente costa anche il 30% di più, ma spesso il costo del kilt è dipeso dal tartan, più un tartan è comune e meno costa un kilt

(il più tradizionale è quello da 8 yard tutto in lana) e fatto su misura può costare anche di più

Attenzione, un kilt usato viene deprezzato anche del 70%, infatti ho regalato un kilt da 8 yard in lana scozzese a un amico per sole 50 sterline, a Edimburgo ad agosto i “charity shop” li hanno sempre in super saldo

Il grande Kilt invece è ancora indossato ma solo da piper, rievocatori e alcuni concorrenti delle highland games, essendo scomodo, costoso e pesante, ma ho visto anche sposi arditi indossarlo

Curiosità, non avendo tasche ora come ora sta spopolando un nuovo kilt sportivo, che ho visto indossare da molti scozzesi, è un kilt con le tasche senza sporran, ovvero la borsetta tradizionale che viene messa davanti al kilt

Altra curosità esiste Clan Italia, un tartan proprio dedicato agli italiani, e per gli amici amanti dell’Irlanda esiste anche un bellissimo tartan proprio irlandese

Poi sappiate che avete più probabilità di vedere gente in kilt a Edimburgo che in città e villaggi, dato che gli eventi principali si tengono sempre nelle città più grandi, nel mio distretto “Midlothian” ho visto solo una persona in kilt in tre anni
Dato che molti non girano a caso in kilt, si mettono il kilt, prendono la macchina e vanno dove devono andare

Se poi vi spostate nelle isole del nord come Orcadi e Shetland li è ancora più raro, essendo che si sentono molto più vicini alla scandinavia
